Question 111 of 433
How is it diagnosed? Can my watch tell me?

The short answer
With an overnight test, which can now usually be done at home. Some watches and rings can flag possible apnea, but they do not make the diagnosis.
A home sleep test uses a small device on your finger, chest, or wrist for one or two nights. More complicated cases need a night in a sleep laboratory. Several consumer devices have been cleared by the FDA to detect signs of moderate to severe apnea, including recent Apple and Samsung watches. A warning from one of them is a good reason to get a proper test. A lack of warning does not rule it out.
