Question 123 of 433
Is any amount of alcohol good for me?

The short answer
No. The old belief that a daily glass of wine protects the heart came from flawed studies. Less is better, and none is best for cancer risk.
Earlier research compared moderate drinkers with non-drinkers, but the non-drinker group included people who had quit because they were ill. When that error is corrected, the benefit disappears. Alcohol raises blood pressure, triggers atrial fibrillation, disrupts sleep, and is a proven cause of at least seven cancers, including breast cancer at as little as one drink a day.
I am not telling you never to raise a glass at a wedding. I am telling you to stop calling it medicine. If you drink, keep it to a few drinks a week, not a few a day.
