Question 315 of 433
Is Botox safe?

The short answer
Yes, when it is the genuine product injected by a trained clinician. It has more than twenty years of safety data for cosmetic use.
Side effects are usually minor: bruising, headache, and occasionally a drooping eyelid that resolves in weeks. The serious cases have come from counterfeit or mishandled product. In 2024 the CDC investigated a multistate cluster of people hospitalized after injections of unapproved botulinum toxin. A price that seems too good is a warning.
Small studies suggest that relaxing the frown muscles may ease depression slightly. It is not approved for that.
