Question 249 of 433
What is GlyNAC?

The short answer
A combination of two amino acids, glycine and N-acetylcysteine, that the body uses to make glutathione, its main internal antioxidant. Results from small trials are striking and need to be repeated.
In a trial of 24 older adults at Baylor, sixteen weeks of GlyNAC improved markers of oxidative stress, inflammation, insulin resistance, walking speed, and grip strength. Twenty-four people is very few. The doses used were also large. Glycine on its own, about 3 grams before bed, has modest evidence for improving sleep quality and is inexpensive.
