Question 218 of 433
Should my thyroid be “optimized”?

The short answer
If your thyroid tests are normal, taking thyroid hormone will not give you energy or a longer life. It can give you atrial fibrillation and thin bones.
I see the consequences in my practice: patients on thyroid they did not need, arriving with a racing, irregular heart. True hypothyroidism should be treated. Mildly abnormal results in older adults often need only watching.
