What are the real risks?

Plain injection pen on navy linen with warm gold light

The short answer

Nausea, constipation or diarrhea, and reflux are common, especially early. Gallstones, pancreatitis, and severe stomach slowing are uncommon but real. I also pay close attention to nutritional adequacy, strength, and function during weight loss.

Start low and go slow. Eat smaller meals. Tell your surgeon and anesthesiologist before any procedure, because a slow stomach changes the fasting instructions. These drugs should not be used by people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or a syndrome called MEN 2, or during pregnancy.

And buy the real medicine. During the shortages, compounded and online versions flooded the market, some with dosing errors and some that were simply counterfeit.
