Question 145 of 433
Does insulin resistance affect the brain and cancer risk?

The short answer
Yes. It raises the risk of dementia and of several cancers.
People with type 2 diabetes have roughly one and a half to two times the risk of dementia. Some researchers have nicknamed Alzheimer’s “type 3 diabetes.” That label goes further than the evidence, but the link is real. High insulin is also a growth signal, and obesity and diabetes are associated with higher rates of cancers of the colon, breast, uterus, liver, and pancreas. Fixing your metabolism protects far more than your blood sugar.
