Question 61 of 433
Should I treat a high homocysteine?

The short answer
SKIP it as a heart or longevity target. Check it only if B12 or folate deficiency is suspected.
High homocysteine is linked to heart disease, so for years doctors prescribed B vitamins to lower it. The vitamins lowered the number, and in several large trials heart attacks and deaths did not change. It is a marker, not a lever.
