Question 420 of 433
Realistically, what will be different in five years and in fifteen?

The short answer
In five years, better versions of what works now. In fifteen, perhaps the first treatments that target aging itself.
By about 2031, I expect: cholesterol and blood pressure controlled with a few injections a year or a single pill; obesity treated as routinely as high blood pressure; blood tests for Alzheimer’s in primary care; cancer blood tests that are better and clearer in their role; and cancer vaccines for several tumor types.
By about 2041, it is possible, not certain, that we will have: one-time gene editing for inherited risks; the first approved drug shown to delay several age-related diseases at once; reprogramming therapies for specific organs; and replacement organs that do not come from a human donor.
I would not promise more. I also would not bet against it.
