Question 330 of 433
Are psychedelic therapies available?

The short answer
Not yet as approved medicine in the United States, though psilocybin is close.
The FDA declined to approve MDMA-assisted therapy for trauma in 2024 and asked for more study. A psilocybin treatment for resistant depression succeeded in two late-stage trials and is being submitted to the FDA, with a decision possible in 2027. For now, legal supervised use exists only in a few state programs, such as those in Oregon and Colorado. Retreats and underground sessions carry real psychiatric and cardiac risks, and I would not recommend them to a patient with heart disease.
