Question 310 of 433
Is methylene blue safe to take for energy and focus?

The short answer
It is a real drug with real interactions, and the evidence for brain benefits is thin.
Methylene blue is an old dye, FDA approved only as an intravenous treatment for a rare blood disorder. It became popular online for mental energy. One small study showed slightly better memory after a single dose; others showed nothing.
The dangers are specific. It can cause a life-threatening reaction called serotonin syndrome when combined with common antidepressants. It destroys red blood cells in people with G6PD deficiency. It should not be used in pregnancy. Products sold as supplements have no dose or purity control.
