Question 158 of 433
What about SGLT2 inhibitors?

The short answer
These diabetes pills turned out to protect the heart and kidneys in people with and without diabetes. They are proven medicines for those conditions, not general anti-aging pills.
Drugs such as empagliflozin and dapagliflozin make the kidneys release sugar into the urine. In large trials they reduced hospitalizations for heart failure and slowed kidney failure. One of them, canagliflozin, extended life in male mice. That is intriguing, but there are no trials in healthy people, and side effects include genital yeast infections and dehydration.
