Question 128 of 433
How do you tell patients to build a plate?

The short answer
Half plants, a quarter protein, a quarter whole grains or beans, and about a tablespoon of olive oil.
Fill half the plate with vegetables and some fruit, the more colors the better. A quarter is fish, chicken, eggs, tofu, yogurt, or legumes. A quarter is whole grain, potato, or beans. Dress it with extra-virgin olive oil. Drink water.
Three rules go with it. Never eat sugar naked. Close the kitchen three hours before bed. And eat like your grandmother, not like a lab.
The plate.
