Question 407 of 433
Is leaking urine just part of getting older?

The short answer
It is common and it is not something you must accept. Most cases improve with treatment.
Leaking with a cough, sneeze, or exercise usually responds to pelvic floor physical therapy, which is far more effective than exercises attempted from a pamphlet. Sudden urgency responds to bladder training and medication. After menopause, vaginal estrogen helps both. In men, the prostate is usually involved. I raise it here because incontinence quietly stops people from exercising, traveling, and seeing friends, and those losses shorten lives.
