Question 321 of 433
Does fat freezing work?

The short answer
It reduces a pinchable bulge by roughly a fifth. It is contouring, not weight loss, and it does nothing for health.
The fat removed is the kind under the skin, not the dangerous fat around the organs, so blood sugar and cholesterol do not improve. One complication deserves mention: in a small number of people the treated area grows larger and firmer instead of smaller, and needs surgery to correct. Early estimates put this risk very low; later reports suggest it is more common than first thought, though still uncommon.
