Question 270 of 433
Which medicines already qualify as proven longevity drugs?

The short answer
The ones that lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. They are so familiar that nobody thinks of them as longevity medicine, and they have added more years of life than everything else in this part combined.
Blood pressure medicines cut strokes by about a third and heart failure by half in people with hypertension, and protect against dementia.
Statins reduce heart attacks and strokes by roughly a fifth for each 40-point drop in LDL, with benefit growing the longer they are taken.
A combination “polypill” of low doses of these drugs was tested in a large trial in rural Iran. Over five years it reduced major heart events by about a third.
If you are searching for an anti-aging drug and have untreated high blood pressure, you have already found it.
