Question 210 of 433

Does testosterone cause prostate cancer?

Sealed vial and syringe in sterile pack on navy

The short answer

Current evidence says no. In TRAVERSE, men on testosterone did not have more prostate cancer than men on placebo.

Those men had been screened beforehand, and men with known prostate cancer are still generally advised against it. Testosterone can enlarge a benign prostate slightly and will raise PSA a little, so monitoring continues.
