Question 202 of 433
What if menopause comes early?

The short answer
Menopause before 45, and especially before 40, raises the risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, and dementia. In those women hormone therapy is recommended at least until the usual age of menopause, unless there is a reason not to.
This applies as well to women whose ovaries were removed surgically. It is replacement of something lost too soon, and the balance of benefit is strongly favorable.
