Question 227 of 433
What is the Galleri test, and how does it work?

The short answer
It is a blood test that looks for fragments of DNA shed by tumors and can signal more than fifty types of cancer, most of which have no screening test at all.
Cancer cells release DNA into the bloodstream carrying abnormal chemical tags. The test reads those tags, reports whether a “cancer signal” is present, and predicts where in the body it likely comes from. It belongs to a new class called multi-cancer early detection tests.
The promise is real. About 70 percent of cancer deaths come from cancers we have no routine screening for: pancreas, ovary, liver, stomach, esophagus, and others.
