Question 194 of 433
Which form of hormone therapy is best?

The short answer
For most women, estradiol through the skin, with oral micronized progesterone if they have a uterus.
Both are FDA approved, identical to the body’s own hormones, generic, and covered by insurance. The patch is changed once or twice a week; gels and sprays are applied daily. Progesterone is taken at bedtime and often helps sleep. Doses are adjusted to symptoms. There is no need for custom-compounded creams.
