Question 156 of 433

What is new in 2026?

Round glucose sensor on an anonymous upper arm, outdoors in daylight

The short answer

A daily pill and a more powerful injection.

In April 2026 the FDA approved orforglipron, sold as Foundayo, a once-daily GLP-1 pill that needs no special timing around food. Average weight loss in its main trial was about 12 percent at the highest dose over 72 weeks. It is less potent than the injections but far easier to make and distribute, which matters for cost and access.

In 2026, late-stage trials of retatrutide, a weekly injection that acts on three hormones, reported average weight loss of about 28 percent at 80 weeks at the highest dose in people without diabetes, and about 21 to 23 percent in people with heart disease. Its heart-safety data are still incomplete, and the company expects to file for approval in early 2027. It is not legally available, whatever a website tells you.
